About Us
It started in a bar in Yangshuo where all good things begin. The three of us, Aussie mates, sat around over beers, sharing many laughs and stories about our experiences in the travel industry. After years leading trips, and running regional destinations for the big tour companies, it was time make a change, to do it our way. So this is us, the My Journey crew

Asia, what can I say, it gets in your blood! It was ten years ago and I still remember stepping off the plane in Hong Kong, just a naïve son coming to visit his father. Walking through late night humidity wrapped in a blanket of neon, my jaw on the floor and my eyes in the sky are how I will always remember my first night in Asia. I never wanted to leave! Five years of visits to Hong Kong and around, I finally sold, gave away or left behind everything I owned and made the move.
I moved to Yangshuo, a world away from everything I knew, I found a great town with great countryside and even greater friends. Here I’ve been a lot of things, a tourist, a teacher, a barman, a waiter, even a not so handy handyman, the list goes on. The most important job turned out to be Tour Leading, a role that gave me the chance to take all the knowledge, experience and excitement I have for travel and give it to others.
I didn’t begin my career in China; I was recruited to the Middle-East where I spent a year in Egypt and Jordan. Seeing the pyramids, smoking Shishas, sailing the Nile and fasting for Ramadan where amazing experiences… but like I said Asia gets in your blood. I returned to China to lead tours everywhere from the Great Wall to the rice terraces, through tiger leaping gorges and out to the grasslands of far western Sichuan. The need to keep moving and seeing new things also took me as far as the land of the rising sun, Japan; where Shinkansens sped me from Fuji San to the company of Geishas, under Torii gates and into hi-tech Shinto life. Now, once again I’m back in Yangshuo.
My heart really does lie in Asia, in particular South-West China and South-East Asia. I can’t see myself leaving this wonderful region for a very long time. No other location or people have ever excited, inspired, challenged or surprised me as much

Imagine your 8 years old riding up front of a very loud, very long Road-Train for over 4000 kilometres of the most dramatic landscape you’ve ever seen. This adventure down the west coast of Australia is still my most thrilling childhood memory! It wasn’t my first road trip, it wasn’t the longest and it wasn’t my last.
Living and working for many years across Europe, the Middle East and Asia has given me a wealth of unforgettable experiences and a lust to keep exploring. Memories of home cooked meals in a Babushka’s snug house with snow storms outside, to dancing barefoot around Nubian bonfires on the banks of the Nile and arriving like a child returned, to a friendly face and a huge hug, in a tiny village nestled in the gorge where tigers once leapt will stay with me forever!
After nearly three decades why would I stop now? I love to travel and I love Asia, which are good reasons why I've made it my home. It’s these simple exchanges and the hospitality of locals from unique and unchanged cultures that inspire my imagination and leave me with more and more timeless memories

I first arrived in Asia over 20 years ago for my first overseas 'adventure'. After the initial culture shock, I got to love the smells, the food and the way of life. I had always yearned to come back. Many years later I gave up my 'good' job in Australia, and started travelling the rest of the World to see what it had to offer, but nowhere excited me as Asia. Eventually I found a job that would allow me back to Asia and I grasped it with both hands
I was fortunate enough that my job allowed me to travel extensively around Asia and I got to explore not just the major sights, but the more remote areas where I felt the warmth of the people and got to understand so much about the local culture. I have been married to a lovely Chinese lady for a few years now and we have two very special children
Now I want to share my experiences and show you the real special places and people in this part of the World
